We have been advised by the Independent Schools Council that these fraudsters are targeting a number of independent schools. These fraudulent emails were sent from the email domain “acs-schools.org” and “acs-school.co.uk”. Our email domain is “acs-schools.com”. If you receive an email claiming to be from ACS, but from the “.org” account, “co.uk” or any other domain except “ @acs-schools.com ” Please contact us immediately, using the phone numbers on the ACS website www.acs-schools.com/acs-doha if you have any queries or concerns relating to any e-mail, communication received from ACS. Please be reminded that all ACS Doha fees and payments can only be paid at the school’s finance office. No payment for ACS Doha will be requested or accepted over the phone or by email. We will remain vigilant and do all we can to minimise risk and we ask you to please do the same. We have changed all staff passwords and we would recommend that you change your passwords periodically to keep your accounts safe. The best practice is to create unique passwords by using a combination of words, numbers, symbols, and both upper- and lower-case letters. Please note that while ACS Doha will be closed from the afternoon of the 21st December until the 7th January 2018, support staff return to work on the 1st January 2018. Should you have any problems or concerns, we kindly ask that you contact the Finance Office from this date. Yours sincerely, Robert Cody Head of School Early Childhood News Today has been so very special. We started with an E.C Assembly. Ms. Lydia showed off her talents as a pianist and each Grade level sang individually and then together as a Division. Mr Alan's movement song in Maori was performed by every student. They know and can respond to 'hope', which means 'move their hips' in Maori and to 'patipati', which means 'clap their hands'. Today, there is an aroma of 'Gingerbread' in the main reception area, as Pre-K 4 students have been cooking 'Gingerbread Men'. They have gone through the process and have had such fun decorating their little edible figures. Yesterday, some of the Kindergarteners were making Gingerbread Houses; starting from mixing the ingredients to making the dough, and then adding the dough to the house mould. I am most proud of how my teachers create such authentic learning situations. On this positive note, I would like to thank every member of the school community for their continuing support. I really do love being with your children and supporting them. I also am inspired on a daily basis by our teachers, who are dedicated to their profession. Kind regards, Susan Leese Early Childhood Principal Lower School News Dear PYP Community, As we come to the end of another calendar year here at ACS, we should take a moment to celebrate what a great year it has been. Our focus on implementing the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme with parents, staff, and students has come a long way since the journey began. The PYP coordinator (Mr. Joe Buscemi) facilitated collaborative planning meetings with all grade levels and specialist teachers to develop a Programme of Inquiry (POI) that aligns the curriculum both vertically and horizontally (POI complete) The PYP coordinator developed a systematic approach to integrate subject specific scope and sequences, standards, and the programme of inquiry (American Educators Reach Out (AERO) Standards aligned with all major subject areas) The school provided IB PYP recognized training and informal training to all current and new staff to assist them in their knowledge of the basic philosophy and curricular model of the programme (Teachers are credited category 1-3 in PYP) The school community demonstrates an understanding of the programme (Parents have begun to use the Learner Profile language and gain a deeper understanding of the framework expectations) Students have become more confident and independent as witnessed in all the Student Voice Team initiatives and successful Spirit Weeks (Citizenship, Friendship, Peace, Wellness, and International-Mindedness) The Outdoor Education Programme is off to a great start with only our Grade 2's and 1's left to experience camping and adventure challenges. As we grow, change and move on with our lives it is always important to look back, with appreciation, on where we came from and forward, with anticipation, to what lies ahead. Let's enter the new year with courage, curiosity and open-minded reflective behaviors, making it our personal and school goal to always be the best we can be.
